Diane Cardill

Artistic field : Visual arts, sculpture

Bio

A graduate of University of Ottawa (1986?) BFA Visual Art Program, Diane was focused on printmaking and painting. She moved with her young family to Barbados from 2005 to 2012, and upon her return to Canada, she began developing her sculptural work. Diane calls herself a « material girl » as there is rarely a material she cannot work with. Sculptures are often a variety of materials that combine to make a cohesive whole, taking the material past its original intention. Diane’s artistic achievements are as varied as her materials; she has worked cooperatively for cities doing workshops and snow sculptures and won various awards. Her work is well known on Montreal’s south shore, where she resided for 11 years. Diane’s house was known in the community for her public art. She felt it was important to share with the community as city budgets do not allow for much artistic outreach.

Approach

Diane Cardill is a Quebec sculptor who grew up in the region of Gatineau and now lives and works in St-Lazare, Quebec. She is inspired by nature , she explores animal forms, focusing on gesture, expression and movement to making inanimate materials come alive.
