Artistic field : Sculpture

Bio

Chantal discovered her passion for sculpture late in life, after a busy professional career and family life. A great admirer of sculptures and works of art discovered during visits to museums, urban explorations and strolls in public and private gardens, she never dreamed of one day creating one herself.

During a Hudson Workshop Tour in 2016, she fell under the spell of works that captivated her. From then on, she took classes at a studio in Saint-Lazare, where she became familiar with Paverpol textile hardener. Although she explores other artistic mediums, it's sculpture with recycled materials that never ceases to inspire her. In 2022, she obtained her Paverpol certification and perfected her technique by pursuing various training courses, talking to many artists from different fields and taking on the challenges of creation.

Approach

The magic of discovering a work of art in the middle of nature, at the bend in a hiking trail or in a public park amazes me every time. I dare to dream of seeing works of art on every flowerbed, to the delight of all, and to generate great conversations between neighbors. Having seen the positive impact of my sculptures on interactions with those around me, I hope that my works can reproduce this effect elsewhere.

My inspirations come from nature and the little moments of everyday life. I like to depict children having fun, a fisherman waiting for a good catch, a woman dancing or contemplating her garden, animals or even imaginary beings like gnomes, capturing the beauty and simplicity of these moments.

The majority of my creations are made from recycled used fabrics in natural fibers (cotton, linen, wool, silk, etc.) such as t-shirts, lace, tablecloths, scarves, etc., as well as other materials such as metal, copper, wood, stone, glass, plastic or others, depending on the desired result. The fabrics are impregnated with Paverpol, a world-renowned ecological fabric hardener which, when dried, can be installed outdoors year-round. Recovering and transforming used textiles and other materials further enhances my pleasure in combining my concern for the environment with my creations.
